Peat is a natural material from the organic residues of bog plants, it consists entirely of carbon and is maximally ecological. It can be easily crushed and compressed into pellets. Due to its natural structure, peat burns slowly and has little ash (3-6%). After pressing, the peat pellets are assimilated to coal in terms of calorific value (amount of ash emitted per 1 kg of fuel). For comparison – the amount of heat released during combustion of 1 kg of peat pellets is 4500-5500 kcal, 1 kg of coal – 3800-5900 kcal, 1 kg of firewood – 3000-3300 kcal. That is why this fuel is widely used both in industry and for residential heating.
Due to the fact that peat is one of the little used heat-intensive materials, in recent years it has been the use of peat pellets as one of the main types of solid fuel in boilers of various capacities.
